Jeff Stevens

I take my inspiration from documentary photographs, specifically, historical mugshots.These images were not originally made for any artistic reason; however, they are often taken of people at a vulnerable moment, a moment I want to capture. 

I find the people in the photographs unique and interesting, the perfect subjects to spend hours with while I work to capture their likeness. More than rendering their portrait however, I hope to tell their story or one page of it at least and return a fragment of their humanity with my art.
